Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can I really learn samba online?
In our experience, live online samba classes can be just as effective as in-person classes. We do want to stress that we are specifically talking about live online classes. Why? Because live online classes allow Ingride to actually watch you dance, give you personal feedback and corrections in real time, and answer your questions during class.
Ingride also takes her live online classes really seriously. She works with multiple screens so she can see everyone clearly. So when feedback needs to be given, feedback can be given.
Another reason we are convinced live online samba can work so well is that many of our online students later join our Rio Tour, where we finally get to see them dance in person. And honestly: those live online students seldom disappoint.
Are the classes live?
Yes, our online samba classes are taught live, so you are not just following along with a pre-recorded video. During class, Ingride can see you dance, give you personal feedback and corrections, and answer your questions in real time.
Can’t make it to a class? No problem. Recordings are available afterwards, so you can catch up or practise the class again in your own time.
Good to know: recorded classes can also be a great way to learn and practise samba, especially because you can repeat the material as often as you want. But if you want personal feedback and corrections, live online classes make a big difference.

Can I join with zero samba or dance experience?
Of course! Our Samba Fundamentals classes are for all levels, including complete beginners. So you don’t need any previous samba or dance experience to join.
Did you know that in Brazil, many people traditionally learn samba simply by observing others, listening to the music and dancing with family, friends or within their community? Of course, many people also take samba classes, especially when they want to work on their technique.
That said: samba isn’t easy. It takes time, practice and patience. But with the right attitude and a bit of perseverance, we truly believe everyone can learn how to samba.
Is samba for everyone?
Yes! You don’t need a certain body type, age, background or naturally “good hips” to dance samba. Samba is something you learn, just like any other dance style.
And you also don’t need to be Brazilian to learn and enjoy samba. What matters to us is that you approach it with respect and curiosity. Samba is more than just a dance: it is part of Brazilian culture, with a rich history and strong Afro-Brazilian roots. That is something we believe should be acknowledged and celebrated while learning.
So if you love samba and want to learn: you are welcome.

You really don’t need a lot of space to join our online samba classes. A small area where you can move comfortably is enough.
In fact, learning how to dance in a limited space is part of samba. When you’re parading on the avenue or dancing on stage, you won’t always have lots of room around you either. The trick is not to travel across the whole room, but to learn how to dance big within a limited space.
-
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable gym or workout clothes that you can move freely in, sports bra and trainers or dance shoes such as jazz shoes.
And of course: don’t forget to bring water and a towel.
Do I need to wear heels?
You don’t need heels to join our samba classes.
But for those who do want to improve their samba skills in heels, we also offer specific Samba Heels classes.
Good to know: you can still join the Samba Heels classes without wearing heels.

If you live in an apartment and are worried about noise, you can use a dance mat to make practising a little more comfortable and neighbour-friendly. Just keep in mind that a mat won’t completely remove the sound of samba footwork.
